Largo Public Library
Jenkins Room BHybrid - Jenkins & Zoom
German archives hold extraordinary treasures for family historians but understanding how they are structured is essential for success. In this in-depth session, you will learn how the German archival system is organized, including the differences between federal, state, municipal, church, and special archives. We will explore what types of records are preserved where, and how to navigate catalogs and finding aids. You will also receive practical guidance on preparing for an archive visit, communicating effectively with archive staff, and conducting research on site in a professional and efficient manner. This session is ideal for researchers who want to move beyond online records and confidently work with original German archival sources.
This will be a hybrid meeting held in-person in Jenkins and online via Zoom. Registration is only required for Zoom attendees.
