Becoming a volunteer for Largo Public Library's English Language Learning Program is a great way to make friends and give back to your community.
At the workshop you will learn about the program's policies and procedures, hear from current ELL volunteers, and participate in an in-depth tour of the library.
You will also have the opportunity to begin your online training modules. Please bring a fully charged laptop with WiFi and headphones or your valid library card with headphones so that you can sign onto a library computer. After the workshop you will complete the rest of the virtual training independently.
Once you have completed your virtual training the following will happen:
Individuals interested in working with an English Language Learner one-on-one will be matched with a student.
Individuals interested in providing administrative support will be scheduled to work with the community services librarian regarding the behind-the-scenes functions of the ELL program. Once a relationship is established there may be a possibility to complete Admin work from home.
Individuals interested in creating a short-term course/s of 4 to 6 weeks will be scheduled to meet with the community services librarian to begin the discussion and development of a course. Please note the planning of courses take a MINIMUM of two months followed by approximately a month to execute the course, followed by 1 to 2 weeks of after-action assessment meetings. The work of a short-term course maybe done with a partner or a small team of 3 or 4.
Registration is limited to ONLY individuals who have completed the Prospective ELL Volunteer Information Session/Open House AND who have submitted an volunteer application.
ALL volunteers are expected to commit to a MINIMUM of 6 months.
