Sorting Your Ancestry DNA Matches
May people’s first DNA test is at Ancestry, but they look at their list of matches and are overwhelmed. This presentation will discuss several techniques for sorting matches into groups of related matches. Colored dots can be used on Ancestry to group matches. An easy progression from the colored dots is the Leeds method on paper or in a spreadsheet. Leeds method groups the matches into family networks or clusters. Ancestry now offers clustering if you have a pro tools subscription.
How DNA Clusters Can Help Your Genealogical Research
DNA clusters group matches into networks of shared origin but understanding how to interpret them is key. This session explains how to read clusters, including which matches group together, which do not, and how to interpret grey cells. It compares clustering tools at MyHeritage, at Genetic Affairs using FamilyTreeDNA data, and introduces AutoLineage as a next step in cluster-based analysis and hypothesis building.
This will be a hybrid meeting held in-person in Jenkins and online via Zoom. Registration is only required for Zoom attendees.
