ELL volunteers at the library commit to two hours per week of teaching and mentoring a neighbor in need of improving their English or providing administrative support for the ELL program.
Becoming an ELL volunteer is a great way to make friends and give back to your community.
At the workshop you will hear from current ELL volunteers about their experiences in the program, receive an overview on how the program works, and participate in an in-depth tour of the library.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be enrolled in a 17-hour virtual English as a Second Language online tutor training course. Participants will work independently on the course and are expected to score an 80 or better.
Once the course is completed, each volunteer will provide the community services librarian with a copy of their achievement certificate who will then match the volunteer interested in tutoring with a student. Those interested in providing administrative support will be incorporated into the behind-the-scenes functions of the ELL program.
Coffee, tea, bottled water, and muffins are included at the Saturday workshop. Registration is required as well as an online application.
