Granny Tales: Words of Wisdom from the Elders, is a collection of stories based on sayings that Joanne Kilgour Dowdy learned from her grandmother and other elders during her childhood and youth in Trinidad. She will share these stories and invites you to share cherished sayings from your ancestors during this session.
Joanne Kilgour Dowdy is Professor Emerita at Kent State University, Ohio. She is the author and editor of 16 books. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, she has performed Between Me and the Lord, an autobiographical work in Trinidad and the USA. Among her awards is the Derek Walcott (1992, Nobel Laureate) Scholarship. Her first children’s book, OLYMPIC HERO: LENNOX KILGOUR’S STORY, was made into an animated film. The book now appears in Spanish and Haitian Krewol.
