Join us for a special two-part lecture series where we discuss America's Westward Expansion and Records of Westward Traveling Pioneers & Service Providers.
There will be a 15-minute break between topics.
1. America’s Westward Expansion: 25 Events in 50 Minutes
This lecture highlights the major laws and events that contributed to America's westward expansion between 1787 and 1890, including territorial boundaries, the expansion of slavery, and wars against Mexican and Native American populations.
2. Records of Westward Traveling Pioneers & Service Providers
This lecture focuses on the records generated during Americans’ westward migration between 1787 and 1890, including strategies on where to search and successfully find them. The discussion includes examples for cowboys, traveling preachers, midwives, Harvey Girls, and other service-providing occupations from that time.
This will be a hybrid meeting held in-person in Jenkins and online via Zoom. Registration is only required for Zoom attendees.
